I just happened to hear an Avett Brothers song on the radio and was totally thrilled to hear young guys with the simple heartfelt lyrics and great sibling harmonies along with acoustic guitars. Murder in the City is the one that gets me choked up everytime I hear it. Now have tickets to see them live here in January and I can't wait.
"murder in the city" drew me to this album from a freebie i downloaded from Amazon. great voices, but lackluster often in terms of mood, a sameness of feeling. i would still download singles.
This record is perfect. Every song, every word, every chord. I have since bought 2 other records from the Avett Brothers and have been disappointed. Perhaps I will feel better once I have listened to the other discs 50 times.
The Avett Brothers are a great band, and this is a solid album. Probably not their very best, but definitely a good purchase. Murder in the City is a worth the cost of the album.
A little bit less rock than some of their other albums but probably the best album lyrically and instrumentally. definitely a must get from the avetts.
